Power Functions – Biology!-2

There are two important parameters we need to consider before using the centrifuge. Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) and Relative Centrifugal Force (RCF) are those parameters. RPM is the speed at which the rotor will rotate and RCF is the total centrifugal force times the earth’s gravitational field. The resultant centrifugal force depends upon the RPM and the radius of the rotor, r. Thus to increase the capacity of the centrifuge which parameter between RPM and r can be increased. Let us first see the relationship between RCF, RPM and r.

Linear Functions-Application In Biology

One of the major and frequent uses of the linear function is in determining the melting temperature (Tm) of the DNA. The strands of the nucleic acids in the DNA are held together by hydrogen bonding. These hydrogen bonds contribute to the Tm of the DNA fragments. Tm values have numerous applications in PCR technology, Southern blotting, in-situ hybridization, etc.

Linear Function-Biology

If you have paid an attention to the meter of the auto-rickshaw or our electricity consumption measuring meter, you will realize that people use the values of readings from meters to calculate the charges incurred on distance traveled or the amount of electricity consumed.

Mathematics- A Foundation Pillar Of The Biological World!

Way back in the mid-19th century Gregor Mendel counted the number of peas with different morphological features like shape and seed coat colour. By counting the number of phenotypically different seeds and applying simple mathematics he could tell to the world that heritable character is determined by two FACTORS. Had he not used numbers to measure the probability of the inheritance of the specific morphological character, probably he would not have been referred as a Father of Genetics
